Common iPhone and iPad Problems
These issues and others may invite you to do a bit of tinkering, but it’s wise to have a professional iPhone and iPad repair technician handle it. Remember to back up your precious data before handing it in for repair.
The instructor walks the repair tech through the process of opening the case on the iPhone X in a way that closely mirrors the process that sites such as iFixit have been doing for a few years now. The video starts by instructing the tech to remove the screws near the lighting port, then inserting the iPhone X into a device that uses suction cups to pry the screen away from the body while the tech uses a small tool to cut the adhesive along the seams at the edge of the device. Apple’s suction cup tool looks like a bulkier version of iFixit’s iSclack tool—a suction cup device that customers can use to disassemble and repair their own device.
The entire Apple device repair ecosystem is fascinating, complex, and oftentimes confusing to consumers given the disconnect between Apple, Apple Authorized Service Providers, third-party factories, and independent repair shops, so we thought we'd delve into the complicated world of Apple repairs....
These are not small, no name factories producing LCDs - these are major operations creating components by the millions, which should give you an idea of the kind of demand there is for aftermarket components across the globe. It costs hundreds of millions of dollars to purchase the kind of equipment needed to produce aftermarket LCDs.
A new report, covering mobile device repairs, has revealed the top phone models by failure rate. The Mobile Device Repair and Security Report for Q4 2017 found that the Xiaomi Redmi 4 was the worst-performing Android phone. Xiaomi’s Redmi Y1 was also in the top ten list for device repairs, coming in at number eight. Samsung had more devices in the top ten though, such as the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S8 Plus, and Galaxy S7 Active. Other phone models in the top ten include the Nokia 6, Moto G5S Plus, and Lenovo K8 Note.
With more and more high-performance and graphic intensive Android apps and games being launched, the limited memory capacity of smartphone goes for a toss. Thus, more and more smartphone brands are launching handsets with 6GB or 8GB RAM. While buying a smartphone with more RAM is definitely a way to get a smoother experience, there are many Android users who cannot afford to do so. Also, there are ways to identify memory intensive apps. You can either kill the apps or even uninstall them to speed up your Android phone. This can further save precious battery life too.
The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL are no longer a secret, and that’s because someone was able to steal a batch of XL phones and sell them on the black market months before the expected October launch. Nevertheless, the Pixel 3 and 3 XL will be the first new Android handsets to run Android 9.0 Pie out of the box. But if you’re looking for a brand new Pie phone, you might be better off waiting for a device that’ll deliver even better specs than the Pixel 3, a phone that’s also supposed to launch this year soon after Google unveils the Pixel 3.
Discussion around macOS and iOS has been going on since the iPad was first released. People have asked: what’s the long-term future of these product lines? Do we expect Apple to maintain iPhone, Mac, and iPad forever? I’ve long considered my ideal computing future to be something a little radical. Since the iPhone came out, I’ve long since thought this should be the future of computing. This style of device would eliminate the discussion around tablets vs. laptops. Why can’t a device be both?
The status bar, where items such as the time, Wi-Fi indicator, battery meter and the like are displayed has been rearranged. With the iPad unlocked, you'll now find the date and time on the left side of the status bar. On the right side is where you will find Wi-Fi, DND indicator, battery life and cellular signal (if applicable). There's not a whole lot new here. You still use the same swipe up from the bottom of the screen to show the app dock, and a longer swipe up opens the multitasking view. The biggest change is the lack of Control Center in the multitasking view.
Take away the Touch ID button and you suddenly have the option to remove the real estate that it currently takes up, making for a slimmer bezel. Just how slim will depend on whether the display technology remains LCD or swaps, like the iPhone X, to OLED. If the latter, Apple could potentially use a flexible OLED as it does in the iPhone X. There, it folds it round so that the element that creates the chin on most smartphones, the display controller can be hidden and give the iPhone X an all-screen effect.
There are lots of places to bring a Windows PC to get repairs, but you mostly need to figure that out on your own: Different places have different prices, and you'll need to find one with a good reputation too. Meanwhile, nothing beats simply bringing a computer to the Apple Store, where the "Genius Bar" will take care of you. I'm speaking from my own experience, where I've had to bring both Windows PCs and Macs to get repaired, and it's always been easier to get my Macs repaired.
The survey, which is based off of Rescuecom's own data about calls to its service, gives Apple its only A+ reliability grade, a reliability score of 665. This beats out Samsung, second with a grade of A- and a score of 270. Lenovo is third, followed by Microsoft, Dell, and Acer, with the last two spots held by HP and Asus. Rescuecom, has been criticized in the past for its survey practices, including a questionably precipitous drop in its ratings for Apple products, considering it wasn't even authorized to repair Apple products at the time.
With Xeon processors up to 18 cores, up to 22 Teraflops of graphics performance, and a brilliant 27-inch Retina 5K display, iMac Pro is the fastest, most powerful Mac ever made. iMac Pro delivers incredible compute power for real-time 3D rendering, immersive VR, intensive developer workflows, high megapixel photography, complex simulations, massive audio projects and real-time 4K and 8K video editing. “iMac Pro combines the incredible design of the iMac with the most powerful workstation architecture we’ve ever built,” said John Ternus, Apple’s vice president of Hardware Engineering.
"Consumers are using their smartphones for even more daily tasks, such as checking social media, calendaring, banking and shopping, which is reducing the need for a consumer PC." The analyst said the PC market may falter in the next two years when the replacement peak for Windows 10 passes. The report said China's Lenovo and US-based HP were in a virtual tie for the number one spot in the PC market, each with a 21.9 percent share, followed by Dell with 16.8 percent and Apple with 7.1 percent.
It's exactly what the "Always Connected" program needs to succeed. Bryant wouldn't say how, exactly, Intel would help improve battery life in future PCs, but he hinted that it involves working closely with some key partners. As for new form factors, we can expect to see convertibles and 2-in-1s get even thinner and more powerful over the next few years. But that also lays the groundwork for things we haven't even thought of yet. Imagine an all-in-one that goes a step beyond the Surface Studio's screen tilting, or a journal-sized PC with a foldable screen. Bryant isn't just expecting gimmicks -- instead, these designs will adapt to users in ways current computers can't.
Keeping up with the latest PC technology is difficult, but it’s overwhelming if you don’t understand all the jargon you encounter when reading articles and spec sheets. From CPUs to GPUs and their inner workings, to motherboards and their varying parts, different display technologies and typesand vendor-created phrases, you can wind up in tech terminology turmoil. That's why we have developed this handy glossary. With the information below, you can learn the meaning of--or refresh your memory on--commonly used, but often confusing, tech terms.
Samsung is working on a new Galaxy View 2 that would feature a whopping 17.5-inch screen, Android Police is reporting, citing sources. The tablet would be slightly smaller than the first Galaxy View, which had an 18.4-inch screen and was running on Android 5.1. That tablet cost $600, which made it a tough sell. According to the Android Police report, the Galaxy View 2 has a more compact design than its predecessor, which weighed six pounds. It'll use USB-C for charging and instead of coming with a handle to carry it around, Samsung's new slate will feature what the site's source calls a "book-style hinge" that doubles as a stand.
Android tablets may not have the best run of late, but they’re not dead yet — at least, not if Lenovo has anything to say about it, with the company announcing no less than five new Android tablets to replace last year’s lineup. The new models are divided into three groups: the budget E series, which comes in seven-, eight-, and 10-inch models, the midrange M10, and the more premium P10 (both of which are 10-inch models). Here are all the details...
